(1783) George Washington says a tearful farewell to officers
1783 United States Gen. George Washington gathers his men at a tavern in New York City to announce he’s retiring and plans to return to Mount Vernon. Washington is “suffused in tears” as he hugs each officer goodbye. His retirement won’t last long. In a few years, he’ll be elected as the first president of the US. .

George Washington was an American soldier and statesman who served as the first President of the United States from 1789 to 1797. During the American Revolutionary War, Washington served as Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army; as one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, he presided over the convention that drafted the United States Constitution and came to be known as the “father of his country” during his lifetime and to this day.

  • 1796: Washington’s Farewell Address (issued as a public letter in 1796) was one of the most influential statements of republicanism.

The Senate votes 65-7 to allow the United States to participate in the newly formed United Nations. The international organization, to be headquartered in New York City, aims to foster cooperation among nations, settle disputes peacefully to prevent wars, and establish wartime rules of conduct.. 1945

A replacement for the ineffective League of Nations, the organization was established on 24 October 1945 after World War II in order to prevent another such conflict. At its founding, the UN had 51 member states; there are now 193. The headquarters of the United Nations is in Manhattan, New York City, and experiences extraterritoriality. Further main offices are situated in Geneva, Nairobi, and Vienna. The organization is financed by assessed and voluntary contributions from its member states. Its objectives include maintaining international peace and security, promoting human rights, fostering social and economic development, protecting the environment, and providing humanitarian aid in cases of famine, natural disaster, and armed conflict.

(1956) The ‘Million Dollar Quartet’ records in Memphis
1956 Rockabilly hit-maker Carl Perkins is recording at the Sun Record Studios when he’s joined by up-and-comer pianist Jerry Lee Lewis. Later, stars Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash drop by, and the four musicians begin an impromptu jam session. The first recordings of the session won’t be released for another 25 years..

“Million Dollar Quartet” is a recording of an impromptu jam session involving Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Johnny Cash made on December 4, 1956, at the Sun Record Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. An article about the session was published in the Memphis Press-Scimitar under the title “Million Dollar Quartet”. The recording was first released in Europe in 1981 as The Million Dollar Quartet with 17 tracks. A few years later more tracks were discovered and released as The Complete Million Dollar Session. In 1990, the recordings were released in the United States as Elvis Presley – The Million Dollar Quartet. This session is considered a seminal moment in rock and roll history.

Facebook i have made a personal choice after their "name policy" witch hunt which repeats every 2 years it seems at the whim of the "bully mob" (even when they make you jump through hoops and verify you), to just quit it and be done with it, they are not worth my time. I don't need it, I don't miss it, in fact it has made my life more productive and void of gross hate, vitriol and drivel. To those who say they can't stay in touch if I am not on there, if you can't reach me because I am not on Facebook, then you are not trying AT ALL - therefore, good riddance.
