Art installation 'Katena Luminarium' by Architects of Air

This is Katena Luminarium, an art installation comprised of large, inflatable plastic domes and tunnels that viewers can explore from the inside, which is where this photograph was taken. But this is no child’s bouncy house—as viewers wander the maze-like luminarium, they’re bathed in light and translucent color. The artwork was created by Architects of Air, an artist collective based in Nottingham, England. The group’s colorful and light-filled luminariums typically span more than 10,000 square feet and are inspired by geometry, nature, and architecture.

Installation art is an artistic genre of three-dimensional works that often are site-specific and designed to transform the perception of a space. Generally, the term is applied to interior spaces, whereas exterior interventions are often called public art, land art or intervention art; however, the boundaries between these terms overlap.
