Thought to be the largest lake in eastern Tibet, Ranwu Lake is one of the major tourist draws to this otherwise isolated region. The town of Rawu is nearby, but you’re facing more than five hours of driving if you want to go to Chamdo (aka Qamdo)—the closest big city. Ranwu Lake is really three narrow alpine lakes divided into sections that are connected by small streams.


Rawu is the name of a small town and village in Nyingchi Prefecture of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. It is at an altitude of 3,807 m.. The modern town of about 20 shops and hotels services the loggers and nearby military base.
